THE
MIRAGE (2:51)
- This romantically melodious,
mood-setting selection of piano and strings is in
accordance with the main stream of contemporary new age
music.

| DREAM
CHILDREN (3:08) - Flowing, ethereal, and very
melodic. Immersed in this atmosphere is a prominent
modulated synthetic instrument forming the melody
against a backdrop of harp and strings. It provokes an
amorphous dreamy quality while maintaining its musical
phrasing. |

| ORIGAMI
(2:32) - This piece is predominantly brass and
is named for its very rhythmic and structural form which
reminded me that behind the uniqueness and apparent
asymmetry of an origami figure, lies a completely
symmetric pattern. (Chaos and fractals were a
fascination to Ken.) |

| THE
ORGANIZATION (6:00) - This piece is about the
struggling to belong-trying to find oneself. The lost
soul here is a trumpet that is more prominent than any
other instrument. It gets lost in the scheme of things
as an oppressive piano makes its overwhelming presence
known. |

| THE
BIRTH OF A HARP (6:58) - A catchy introduction
leads into the emergence of a harp movement as a few
free and isolated harp notes come together to form an
entity. This entity eventually passes as its spirit
lives on in the other instruments most notably in
pizzicato strings. |

A
CHRISTMAS WALTZ (3:13)
- A nice neoclassical
piece which seems to be a popular selection from this
CD. This selection was written for my wife, Kasia, at
Christmas in 1994.

THE
PIPER'S VISIT (5:28)
- This contemporary
instrumental offers similar moods as in The Mirage. A
solo flute in the middle of the piece takes the listener on
a brief and quite meditative journey.

| GATE
OF MEN (The Raining of Souls) (4:52)
-
Platonic philosopher's believed that souls descended
from the heavens into men through the constellation
Cancer so named the 'Gate of Men'. Rich in complex
instrumentation, this composition was composed in memory
of Ken for his love of classical music and his
intellectual endeavors into complex systems. |

| TWILIGHT
(2:40) - This piece builds on the feeling of
solitude. While instruments are added and activity
increases, loneliness persists. This piece resulted from
a daydream about finding my way home to America after
being stranded in Antarctica, only to find myself
missing the experience, a longing for something that was
really a predicament! |

| CTAHOK
(4:22) - CTAHOK (pronounced
STA'NOKE) is Russian
for "machine tool" which is realized by a
unique reverberating hammering sound at the introduction
and closing of this selection. This composition was also
composed in memory of Ken. While in college, Ken had an
interest in learning Russian. I had studied Russian in
high school, so I taught Ken this word which we
occasionally and surrealistically used as a greeting
instead of "hello". |
